Executive Director Myeongchul Ahn’s interview with Dong-A Ilbo

Ahn Myeongchul’s escape and the process of entering Korea changed in an instant.
Ahn was a security guard at the 22nd Political Prison Camp (Total Control Zone) under the National Security Agency. He was a perpetrator who once suppressed North Koreans.
However, his father’s sudden upheaval and subsequent defection made him an instant victim. Ahn’s family members were either executed or imprisoned in political camps.
Ahn Myeongchul escaped from the camp with one AK47 automatic rifle and six pistols on September 18, 1994, and entered Korea on October 3, 1994.
This article covers Executive Director Ahn’s escape process and his life after entering Korea.
As the only escapee and witness of North Korea’s political prisoner camps, Executive Director Ahn is doing his best to unearth North Korea’s responsibility for crimes against humanity.
