NK Watch Statement at the UN Human Rights Council

At the UN Human Rights Council on March 14th, NK Watch raised the issue of the North Korean women defectors jointly with our partner, UN Watch. The international manager of NK Watch said that the situation faced by these women defectors when they are repatriated to North Korea is particularly grave because they become an easy target of sexual harassment by North Korean security agents. Therefore, NK Watch asked the Special Rapporteur on North Korea to examine the cases of the North Korean women defectors and hold to account not only North Korea but also the governments that cooperate with them. Even though the North Korean representative at the place denied all the cases, the Special Rapporteur Darusman gave a positive answer that the UN mechanism needs to discuss about this issue.
