Conference on international advocacy to act to ensure accountability for North Korea’s human rights violations (09/27/2021)
Greetings from NK Watch.
On Monday, September 27th, NK Watch held an international conference, the Conference on international advocacy to act to ensure accountability for North Korea’s human rights violations, at the Seoul Global Center, occurring virtually and in-person. The conference welcomed prominent experts from the international community and witnesses of North Korean human rights abuses as they exchanged opinions and information in the search for practical judicial mechanisms for holding North Korea accountable for its crimes against humanity.
NK Watch extends our deepest thanks to the Dutch Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Joanne Doornewaard; Representative ad interim of OHCHR Seoul, Imesh Pokharel; and the members of the Association of Witnesses for Accountability in North Korea (AWNK). We also sincerely appreciate the efforts and contributions of Sir Geoffrey Nice and Dr. Nevenka Tromp of the Geoffrey Nice Foundation; Justice Michael Kirby, former chairman of the UN Commission of Inquiry for Human Rights in the DPRK; the lawyers of the Geoffrey Nice Foundation; Nicolai Sprekels, the Executive Director of SARAM; Eric Husketh, the Human Rights Officer for OHCHR Seoul; and the diplomats and officials from many countries and human rights organizations, both at home and abroad.
In the future, NK Watch will continue to work with both domestic partners and the international community to take practical steps towards North Korean accountability.
Thank you.
