Ahn Myeong-Chul’s interview with NHK (06/09/2021)
In May 2020, NK Watch introduced an animated film, “True North”, that was nominated to screen at Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Directed by Eiji Han Shimizu, the film tells the story of Yo-han, a 9-year-old living in a political prison camp in North Korea. Since the film portrays the atrocities committed in the prison camp, it was noted for its significant work on depicting the horrendous human rights conditions.
As the film was based on the sketches and testimonies by Ahn Myeong-Chul, the Executive Director at NK Watch, NHK interviewed Mr. Ahn on June 9th, 2021. NK Watch will continue its work to show the reality of North Korea’s egregious human rights violations by partnering with the international community.
