NK Watch is

a civil society organization advocating for North Korean Human Rights

established by North Korean Political Prison Camp survivors and family members on June 3rd, 2003.

Main Activities

Political Prison Camp Surveillance

NK Watch is continuously monitoring forced disappearances, torture and slave labor situations happening in North Korea’s political prison camps(total control zones) and various detention facilities. The information collected is shared with the international community.

Research & Documentation

NK Watch is investigating the damage of crimes against humanity in North Korea through interviews with North Korean defectors. NK Watch writes petitions based on the investigation records and submits them to the United Nations Human Rights Council: Special Rapporteur on Torture, Special Rapporteur on violence against women, Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearnces, Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, Special Rapporteur on Contemporary forms of Slavery, and Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Accountability

NK Watch has been collecting documented evidence (petitions) and securing witnesses since 2013 in order to hold North Korea accountable for Crimes against Humanity. In addition, NK Watch has published a research report in July 2023 to prove that Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il, and Kim Jong Un are the ultimately responsible figures for crimes against humanity. NK Watch is taking a step closer to the final goal of ensuring accountability by collecting this fundamental evidence.

International Cooperation & Solidarity

NK Watch, based on expertise and reliability, is expanding cooperation and solidarity with international organizations, overseas governments and non-gvernmental organizations to promote freedom and human rights.
